Astucemedia was deeply honoured to be one of only two finalists selected to demonstrate their technology in front of the top ranked professional hockey league in the world. To say that hockey is a big deal in Canada is a bit of an understatement: The very first Stanley Cup game was played in the city where we are head-quartered, Montreal, in 1894, and our national sport has a fervent following.
Upon selection, VIZRT and Astucemedia set out to integrate(then NHL real-time puck & player tracking partner) Jogmo data into our extendable, module-based architecture. We developed software using Viz Arena’s camera tracking and keying technology to add real-time player-tracking and on-ice virtual graphics to live-coverage.We included shot clocks, zone charts, shot charts and player stats. We also embedded red and green zones on the ice to highlight success zones. Side panel and standard insert graphics were integrated into our data platform’s graphics control module and panels to operate graphics rendered in Viz Arena.
The demo was held at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, as per NHL’s request, to simulate a low-control, frenetic environment. While we did not win the contract, we are proud to share a few visuals of what we developed here.
